When Tim and I first moved in, we thought it would be a piece of cake to paint our bedroom. We now laugh at that idea.
We literally had just moved in that day and by that evening, we were at Wal-Mart buying our first can of paint to begin our bedroom project. We admit that we were perhaps too ambitious.
We started off just fine. We taped around our trim and the doors and windows. We removed all the electrical outlet covers. We were set to paint.
Look how happy Tim was to start adding a little bit of color to our bedroom walls.
But two hours into our project, we were sweaty from all the work (we had to turn off the overhead fan to prevent the cheap, plastic drop clothes from blowing around) and our room actually looked worse than before. It looked blotchy and very, very periwinkle. Damn that Nate Berkus for suggesting that your bedroom should be an oasis and add soft, romantic colors.
So we went to bed, defeated and exhausted. We peeked in the room the next day and we were pleasantly surprised. The color had muted and looked more like the lilac gray were were expected and we got better coverage than we thought.
Even still, Tim did not want to tackle the painting again. So we let the blotchy room stay until my mom showed up for the other painting projects the next week. We hung our heads in shame as we realized we bit off more than we could chew.
Here's how the room looked before we painted. It was a pretty neutral tone.
After my miracle worker mom came and touched up our painting mishap, the room is now looking better than ever.
Tim let me take a chance on buying the purple and gray bedspread. I always have loved it since we bought it almost a year ago, but I love it even more now that it is in a room with the right color to accent it. Tim hung these faux wood blinds for me, too.
Luckily the fan has the same dark wood tones as our bed frame and dresser and also our blinds.
So that's our bedroom. We all know how much Tim and I love to sleep....well, this room only adds to that problem. It is so calming and relaxing, I might just be going to bed even earlier!
